Number SIX!!
I have a 6-year old. I do. No seriously, I do. I know, I know...how can that be? I can't believe it either. But his shirt told me so; so I believed it.

So what does a 6-year old boy do on his birthday?! Follows birthday tradtion, of course. At least the breakfast-in-bed part. This year was a hard one for Gav - he couldn't decide between Biscuits 'n Gravy at Hardee's, or a Sausage/Egg/Cheese Biscuit and hashbrowns from McD's. Ultimately, he chose McD's. I think he was happy with his choice. Though I happen to love Biscuits 'n Gravy from Hardee's...but that's a whole 'nother post.
Kurt woke up especially early (see previous post about how early kindergarten is!) to get the yummies for Gavin, even though he wasn't feeling so well that morning. (Thanks babe. I owe you. I'll be sure to get your breakfast-in-bed yummies on your birthday in November. I know, I know...so nice of me.)

Because it was Gavin's 6th birthday, we did what all cool parents do - took donuts to his class during lunch. That was an experience, let me tell you. 22 kids trying to quickly eat lunch, but their chatty mouths, need for help opening their string cheese and Capri Suns distract them. Then we, the cool parents, bring in donuts. What a great treat for them! Gavin was the cool kid for the day - which made us even cooler parents, right?! Yeah, thought so.
Gavin was so excited to have us there in the Cafeteria (not lunch room, according to Gavin) on his special day. He was so excited, he couldn't think of anything but his favorite gal pal...TORI! Now this Tori happens to be the daughter of our dearest friends, Mark and Alison. We've already given Gavin the "go ahead" on a future marriage to Tori, if he so chooses. Gavin adores Tori. No he really, really adores Tori. He made us stare at the door to watch when Tori would make her grand entrance into the Cafeteria. If we turned our heads even the slightest bit away from the door, he'd quickly yell, "Mom, Dad...watch for ToRI!!!" So we did. And she came in. I think fireworks went off inside of Gavin when he saw her. (Did I mention his deep, deep adoration for her?!)
A few minutes after Tori came in, she walked over to Gavin (and us) and said, "Happy Birthday, Gavin!" in the sweetest, only-Tori-like voice. Gavin smiled and with that smile came the first appearance of that big open space in his mouth. Tori had to take a double look on that one. Gavin insisted on taking a birthday picture with his gal. So I took it. As soon as I did, he said, (and I'm not even kidding) "How 'bout we take a picture like this (as he put his arm around her)...that's much better." Thankfully Ryan joined in the photo, otherwise it would have been an engagement photo op - twenty years down the road.

Later that afternoon, we picked up Gavin from school and headed to the "Happiest Place on Earth!" Disneyland? Heavens, no. The airport, silly!
We were there for one thing and one thing only: to watch Lufthansa Airlines' A340 land. Yes, I know it's much too exciting for most of you - but really; wow, it's fun! And what more could a airplane-obsessed 6-year old ask for?!

Ok, the night was ending and we asked Tori's family to come over for the best homemade cheesecake ever (Gavin's request -- he has great taste in desserts). They came, we opened presents, ate yummy cheesecake, felt sick from eating all that cheesecake, and played with the coolest birthday presents!

Can you see Ryan's excitement in GAVIN'S gifts!? Yeah, apparently these boys (or at least Ryan) still think that a birthday is for both of them...lesson to be learned later, I guess.

Happy Birthday, Gavi boy! We sure love you!

For Tooths Sake!
On Thurday, the 4th of September, Gavin's top right tooth finally let go. We had tried everything to coax it to come out. Many, many bribes were made, but the darn thing wouldn't budge. Ok, maybe it had alot to do with the owner of that tooth - but seriously, that thing was nasty. It had been there dangling around long enough. It couldn't hang any longer. I knew my boys were stubborn, but man...that tooth took stubborn to the next level!

(See how gross and twisted that thing is?! *extreeeeme close up!*)
And so that morning, Gavin, confident about his choice to keep it in there (grossly hanging by a thread), decided to for go the pull and go to school. We thought about placing bets on whether or not that thing would fall out at school, but darn...we didn't. I would have been rich if we did though. When we walked to the bus stop to get Gavin, there was a definit change about him. No, it wasn't the glowy "I'm almost 6", it was the BIG HOLE IN HIS MOUTH! I thought for sure that two teeth had fallen out, given the size of the hole! But alas, he just has cute spaces between his teeth like I did as a child.

The Toothfairy was totally nice and left $1 for him. Wow, that Toothfairy sure is generous.

Farmor & Farfar come to visit!!
This past week, we had Kurt's parents, or Farmor & Farfar (Swedish way of saying the fathers father and fathers mother) in town. We were so excited for them to come, because it had been almost 2 years since their last visit!! (Note to Farmor and Farfar: COME VISIT AGAIN SOON!!) :)
The boys had a great time with them - and Kurt and I loved watching the boys interact with them the most. It's not easy being so far from both sets of Grandparents. The boys loved seeing them (including my Mom, Gramma Colleen this past August), and wish so much that we could live near them to develop a closer relationship. But we're thankful when they do make the time and effort to come and get to know these boys better.

Ryan and Farmor on the front porch rocking chairs - apparently Ryan was being a Cat. Sadly, no one in the family likes Cats. Poor kid.
Thanks for a great time, Farmor & Farfar! We miss you already!! And to Gramma and Grampa..."nosey, nosey...kiss!"

Ryan's First Day of Preschool!
The long-awaited day for Ryan finally came!

He had seen his big bro attend preschool and pre-k the last two years, and his patience finally wore off! He demanded the same experience that Gavin had. Ok, not really...but you can understand how badly he wanted to have his school. Especially now that Gavin has his. We were bummed that Ryan couldn't get into the same program Gavin was in last year - but we did find an awesome playschool at a local Methodist church. They have a great program; perfect for Ryan! The best part about it, is there are 8 other kids from our ward that are attending the same school! Carpooling this year is going to be a breeze - compared to last year.
And a few more from today...waiting for the carpool!

We sure love that Ryan!
